On May 24th, 2005 Joseph Onek, Senior Policy Analyst for the Open Society Institute and the Open Society Policy Center, testified at the invitation of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence at a hearing on reauthorization of the USA Patriot Act. Onek emphasized to the committee the importance of protecting every American's civil liberties. He stated that these basic rights and freedoms are currently threatened by the proposed amendments to the Patriot Act and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
